I work as a paraprofessional for the local middle school. That means that I travel with 1 student with special needs throughout the day. I am there to assist this student academically & physically! Because I travel with the student from class to class, I go in & out of about more than seven strange classrooms throughout the day, while I appreciate moving around, the school has actually uneven temperature control. In some areas of the building, there is air conditioning system; however other areas of the building do not have any air conditioning system, then similarly, some of the rooms have fans, while others do not, and as the weather is getting warmer, this makes it challenging to know what to wear. In the rooms without air conditioning system or fans, it is extremely tepid & uncomfortable. It also doesn’t help that there are about twenty middle school teenagers perspiring & smelling up the place! When I am in those rooms, I would still be tepid in a skirt & a tank top! However, some of the classrooms that I am in have air conditioning system. Because only certain rooms in the school have air conditioning system, it is consistently blasting! While I appreciate the initial relief, by the end of the class period, I have goosebumps on my skin! I’ve found that the only way to make it through the day comfortably is by wearing layers. I am always taking my sweater on & off throughout the day, however it’s worth it. Last week, I decided it was tepid enough to just wear a tank top, & I was so freezing in the classrooms with air conditioning system! It made it so much more difficult to get through the day. I won’t make that mistake again.
