For my daughter’s 13th birthday, she wanted nothing more than to have a sleepover with a few of her friends.
We have an inground pool in the backyard, so I suggested that she have everyone over to swim and eat, and then her friends could spend the night.
She loved this idea! On the night of her birthday party, there were about 10 girls who came to swim, eat pizza and celebrate! Of those 10, only 6 of them actually spent the night. Since it was a birthday party, I told my daughter that they could stay up however late they wanted, but to keep quiet and try to get some sleep before morning. I remember sleepovers when I was her age, so I knew they wouldn’t stay up too late. In the middle of the night, I got an alert on my cell phone from my HVAC system. We have a smart thermostat installed, so whenever someone tries to alter the temperature, it sends an alert to my phone. My husband and I are strict about the thermostat, and our children are not aloud to alter the temperature. Thankfully, the smart thermostat has a lock feature, which keeps our kids from making any unnecessary changes. I got myself out of bed and down the hall to the thermostat to see why it was trying to be altered. I found one of my daughter’s friends standing there trying to change the temperature, and I was shocked. Who tries to change someone else’s thermostat settings?!
