Last weekend, my parents went on a vacation just the two of them. This was the first time they’ve gone away without the rest of the family in over 10 years! My siblings and I have always asked them why they don’t travel and get away more often, and they always answer that it’s not a good time. They have a dog that they’re afraid to board, and they hate leaving their house unattended for so long. In an attempt to get them to relax for once, I offered to stay at their house for the whole week while they were away. I’d watch their dog and make sure my mom’s flowers were watered and the house was maintained. Thankfully, they agreed! On my first night in my parent’s house, I couldn’t believe how warm and toasty it was during the evening. I arrived after work and didn’t feel like the temperature was too warm. However, when I was sleeping, I couldn’t believe how much hotter their house felt. In the middle of the night, I had to open every closet and try to find a portable fan for relief. The next morning, I called my parents and asked them why their thermostat was locked on such a high temperature at night. Apparently, they have a smart thermostat, and it automatically adjusts the temperature each evening to their desired temperatures. If I was going to stay there for another 6 nights, I asked them to take the lock off their smart thermostat so I wouldn’t melt at night.
