When my wife Harriet and I moved in together, her mother bought us a kitchen table.
The kitchen table was made out of oak, too short and drastically the wrong size for our home.
Harriet’s mother made a big deal over how expensive the kitchen was too. Harriet felt of us could not upgrade it. For years I suffered sitting around that tiny, hard kitchen. After several years of disliking it, I finally begged Harriet to throw it out. She said they only way we could remove the table was to buy something better. All the kitchen tables from high end stores looked the same. They were hardwood with a gloss finish. They also were really small. I then started looking around online and I found a custom furniture and interior design shop. The furniture maker listened to all my concerns and had the right fit for me. He is going to build my kitchen table by hand to the perfect size in my house. Secondly, the wood will be handled by the interior designer. The person came over to our condo and looked at everything. She asked if all of us were keeping the look out our house. She wanted to know what was our style? What theme are all of us going for? The person then gave us different woods to look at to decide what the table should be made out of. In the end, the kitchen table is going to cost a lot of currency, way more than our seasoned one. But, it will be made of good material and be the right size.
