The boiler has got to go

What I wouldn’t give for a full night’s rest these days.

It seems that between my busy schedule and the fact that there are constant noises in my house I can’t seem to get any rest.

I try to go to bed early but even the sound of the television downstairs keeps me awake and I can’t fall asleep very well. Then there is the issue of the heat source that we use in our home that wakes me up on an hourly basis. We have an old boiler in the basement it is nearly thirty years old and it makes a loud clanking sound each time it turns on and shuts off. My husband insists that he has already bled the lines and there is nothing that can be done about it but I have a solution that he doesn’t ever want to hear about. I say that we should replace the boiler with a new one but he insists that it still works so it’s fine. He says he doesn’t even hear the clanking noise and that I should just learn to ignore it but it is difficult to do when you are a light sleeper. He also tried to convince me that it should be a comforting sound because I know that the heat is on but that doesn’t work for me either. I’ve tried to show him the research that indicates we would save significantly on our energy cost if we replaced it with a newer model as well but so far I haven’t made any headway in convincing him of the change.
