My dad has a harsh rule about turning on the heat for the first time.
For some reason, my dad decided that there would be no heat until the first snow of the year. I know that this is ridiculous. This is because the weather can still be cold without any snow. The air and wind chill really does get you. My dad says he will not spend the extra cash on heating the house prior to a snowy day. For this reason the entire family sits around freezing cold for almost a whole month before we use the heating system. Dad says that simply lighting a fire in the fireplace is all we need. The fireplace is a sufficient heater to take the chill out of the house. The fireplace only seems to warm the living room though. Once you leave that living room as well as head to the kitchen or dining room, it is freezing cold. The funny thing is that even the dog seems to whine about the lack of heating. The dog refuses to leave the living room at the end of the night. Dad has to drag our poor dog down the hall to her room. It seems our dog doesn’t want to be away from the fire. It is pretty terrible to see that a dog feels too cold in our house. I can’t wait to move out of the house. I will crank the heater the moment I feel cold when I have my own place.
