It seems like working folks position just keeps on slipping.
The amount we work continues to rise as the monetary remuneration for that work continues to dip. I see the vise getting turned tighter on the vast majority of us while the rich continue building their wealth. I just wonder how long this cycle can sustain itself before there is some real violent consequences. Not that it’s not violent enough out there right now. I can remember my dad was home with his feet up in the HVAC comfort by 5:30 every evening. He didn’t work more than 8 hours and weekends were out of the question. And, this was a guy who was an executive and did very well for himself and his family. Those times are gone. It’s finally getting to the point where I have had to take on a side job. That’s a side job after my 55 hour per week day job. If I don’t do this, my kids are not going to college and our standard of living hits the skids. It gets harder and harder to find places to cut the household budget. Our cars are old, I gave up playing golf due to the expense and my wife buys her clothes at discount places. This is all fine and well but, it seems a bit much considering how hard we work. I have attempted to trim other stuff. I definitely take care of household projects now. No more calling the handy man. A lawn service is out of the question now. I just have to flog my son to get out there once a week. But, I am not giving up my HVAC comfort. That I won’t do. I’m not going to sweat or freeze in my own home.
