Your furnace is ready for winter, but is your AC unit?

This protects it from the weight of snow and ice and it also protect it from any falling icicles

Preparation is the key to be able to get through winter in our area. The Winter in the north can be so breathtakingly cold that if you let things go and you aren’t prepared, you could go without heating. Snow is on the ground even before the Thanksgiving holiday. The furnace has already been on for a few weeks. I do all my heating and air conditioning Winter prep in early October. I prefer to have the Heating and air conditioning system checked and maintained once before Winter and once after Winter. This is the time that I also begin to stock up on the rest of the Winter gear and things I need to do my winter chores. We have a wood stove to supplement the heating. I get the flue cleaned every fall to make sure there is never any risk of a chimney fire. The early fall is also the time that I get all the ice melt and snow removal device ready. I don’t fool around with Winter. I don’t forget about the cooling side of the HVAC when I am preparing for winter. The summer season here is quite nice, but there is a need for air conditioning quite a bit of the time. I try to look after the air conditioning as much as I do the heating. I have a heavy plastic cover that fits over the Heating and A/C unit outside. This protects it from the weight of snow and ice and it also protect it from any falling icicles. Some of these things can wreck you. When the HVAC technician comes out to put the furnace to bed for the season, I also have him uncover the Heating and A/C cabinetVAC unit. AT that time, he will also do the annual servicing of the air conditioning unit.
