Something had to give when I realized I was behind on credit card payments and facing increasing bills around the house.
I never wanted to get this far behind, however the only recourse I had was to let 1 of our cards go to collections with the intent to negotiate a better payment program in the near future.
This offered myself and others a tiny bit of currency each month to handle our utilities. Of course this wasn’t enough, and I was worrying within multiple months if I could ever afford our electricity bill again. I wish I could say that I struggle with energy complications because I turn on too multiple lights or run too multiple dining room or laundry appliances. The truth is that most of our electricity bill consists of the energy expenses running the cooling system and the electric furnace. Although I can get away with running our cooling system only a few times a month even in the Summer blaze, it’s the furnace that is the real culprit for our ridiculous utility bills. It’s so cold here from October to April that I have no choice however to run our furnace to stay warm. I didn’t realize this entire time that I was using possibly the least energy efficient heating source that I had at our disposal. When I l gained that our home already had a gas line that was functional, I decided that I would convert to gas powered heat and see if i could get our energy expenses under control. Although I expected a change, I could have never anticipated the substantial savings in switching from electric heat to gas powered heat. I might really be able to afford all of our bills despite our meager income now that I have a modern gas furnace to use while in the cold season.
