Can UV Filtration Systems Reduce Viruses in Buildings

We are living through a pandemic right now; the Coronavirus, also called Covid-19, made its way across the world from some disgusting wet market in China, and is killing thousands of people.

Everyone knows this, of course.

One thing you may be wondering is whether or not there is a way to reduce the overall number of bacteria and viruses in your home or workplace. Well, we have always included air filters in our HVAC systems, from day one. First, there were those blue air filters that are made our of fiberglass. They were fine, but in this day and age, we know that they are only minimally acceptable. No one should be putting those old fashioned air filters into their a/c return. Building on that we now have HEPA filters. HEPA filters have been around for a long time now, and they are much better than the air filters of yesteryear. But now, not as commonly used, we have something even better. We now have UV filtration systems that are designed to provide really good indoor air quality. Without an air purifier or air filtering system, your HVAC system can actually transport mold, pet dander, dust, bacteria, and other pollutants through the ductwork and throughout your house. Air purifiers with UV lights, or UV air purifiers, can help put a stop to those microbes wreaking havoc with your breathing and health. UV lights are placed in your HVAC core ductwork or in the HVAC’s condenser coils. By that placement, the microbes are attacked at the source. The UV lights attack the makeup of the cells and make it impossible for them to reproduce, effectively killing them off.
