I have been attending AA meetings for over a year now and I have been sober for 14 months.
Well, the other day, I got up to talk to my group about a huge temptation I had to face when I was having problems with my HVAC system. The A/C wasn’t working well and so I called up the HVAC company. They said they wouldn’t be able to make it to my house to repair my cooling system until the next day, which was very disappointing to me. I remembered that I kept an old window A/C unit in my attic, and so I went up there to look for it. I actually was able to find it, but next to the window A/C unit was a couple bottles of Vodka, and I even had a bottle of Hennessey. I honestly thought I had gotten rid of all of my alcohol, and these bottles were very tempting to me. The first thing I did was take the window A/C unit down to my kitchen and installed it in the window. I had the A/C cranked up and then I got those bottles of alcohol and set them on the kitchen table. I just sat there staring at them for the longest time. I really wanted to have a drink, the temptation was greater than ever. Honestly, I was about to grab a glass and pour myself just a little bit of Hennessey. That’s when my phone rang, and it was an HVAC technician from the HVAC company. He said he had a cancellation and he could come straight to my house to fix my air conditioner. This was great news and I had him come over. He did a great job on the A/C system and I was so thankful. I actually asked him if he would take these bottles of Vodka and Hennessey because I was not supposed to drink. He was really grateful and took the alcohol off my hands!
