Whenever I tell people that blinds are going to help their HVAC bill they get a little confused. They always tell me that they have been told the only thing that will save them money on their HVAC bill is to turn the thermostat down a little bit. While it’s true that you can certainly save money by putting your thermostat at a more moderate setting, my number one tip is to get blinds. If you are blasting your air conditioner but also have sun coming in to the windows and heating up the house you won’t have a very comfortable house. You might still feel your AC but you will have many warm spots and most people don’t want that! The other tip that I like to tell people is to get a smart thermostat. In the summer a smart thermostat is amazing because it can adjust to the temperature and keep you cool all day long. A lot of people hate coming home to a hot house, but you can control your AC system with the touch of a button if you have a smart thermostat, even when you aren’t home. When you talk to your HVAC technician this summer make sure they also do some preventive maintenance, it might save you money in the long run.
