Programmable thermostats and their convenience

I really appreciate having a programmable thermostat.

I like to have a scheduled and structured life and it’s nice to be able to incorporate HVAC into that.

It’s particularly nice to have the heating or air shut off at just the right time after I have left for work in the morning and turn back on at just the right time before I return from work in the afternoon. This is great, because I don’t have to keep my heating or air running all day long in order to be able to have it on when I return, so there is no being cold or hot as I wait for the house to warm up or cool down. The temperature is just as comfortable when I leave as when I return, and that’s very handy. Unfortunately, I came home last Friday afternoon to find a house that was very hot. It turns out my air conditioner unit had failed in some way when it turned off that morning and was not able to kick back in shortly before I returned from work. I came home anticipating a nice, cool house as I had been enjoying for quite some time after work every day and found it to be hot and sweaty instead. I was concerned that the air conditioning problem would warrant calling an HVAC technician and paying a bill for service. I went through a checklist of the more simple things that could have happened to cause the air conditioning to not turn on. I was relieved to find it was a breaker problem that I was able to quickly fix.
