When I had visitors over at my place the other day, I wasn’t expecting the visit to end so abruptly.
- However, one of my friends that came to visit had some kind of asthma attack within half an hour of being in my house! I had no idea what caused it until later, when that friend told me her asthma attacks are brought on exclusively by poor air quality.
That got me thinking about the air quality inside my house, and I noticed that it was pretty foul. There was this distinct thickness to the air that made it challenging to breathe, and I was so used to coughing every minute or two that I just thought I was sick. As it turns out, the air quality was awful! I had a professional HVAC service technician come through and test the air quality out using their tools, and sure enough, it was just terrible. I asked what I could do to fix this now, and they said I was pretty limited. Fortunately for me, these limitations didn’t keep me from being able to make a big difference with one single change – a significantly better air filter. The air filters I’d been using were clearly useless, as they weren’t keeping any dust or dirt from getting into the air conditioning system or out of the air ducts. So, I changed the air filter out for a HEPA air filter. HEPA filters are designed to be extremely effective at filtering out all the pollutants that can float through the air in a house. This one measure made a major difference, just as the HVAC service technician and I expected!
