I think that living in a big city has its pros but it also has cons.
I found that when we lived there, we didn’t have very much personal service when it came to any sort of maintenance or service work.
I mean, I guess it’s pretty understandable when all of those maintenance guys see hundreds or even thousands of people a month whenever they have to go out on service and repair calls. It seems like there’s just really no way to forge a bond or a friendship with any sort of repair guy when you live in a big city. It doesn’t matter if it’s a plumber, an electrician, or an HVAC technician. These guys all seem to have just one thing on their minds when they come to your place for an appointment. They want to get in, fix the problem, and get out again so that they can move along to their next appointment. It’s very different when you’re living in a small town, though. A couple of weeks ago, I had to call to get my furnace worked on and when the HVAC technician showed up for the appointment, we talked and joked around for fifteen minutes before he even looked at my furnace! Then once he finished with all of the furnace repairs, we ended up having coffee. Now I know basically everything about this guy and we are going fishing together next weekend. I tell you, there’s just a big difference between living in a small town and living in a big city.
