Got new sun shades to help with HVAC costs

Additionally, we had automatic sun shades installed on all the windows

There is no doubt that when it comes to weather and climate concerns around here, the conversation will ultimately be about the heat. Our heat season is a long one. But the summer months are particularly intense. There’s just no way around it. This area will be scorching hot for about four months in a row. Thankfully, we have the HVAC heat pump to mitigate the effects of the heat at least in our homes. However, there is a real cost associated with HVAC cooling. And left unchecked, it can end up being really super expensive. Our home is off in the woods and this is our second year in it. We went without window coverings last year because we could. There were no neighbors or anything like that so we went with uncovered windows. That was a mistake. The direct sun heating from having all those windows uncovered really cost us. It’s the highest HVAC bill I have ever had in my life. And I’m a native to this region. So this year, we decided to hit back at the high cost of HVAC cooling with a two pronged strategy. First, we installed a smart thermostat which will precisely manage the HVAC output. Additionally, we had automatic sun shades installed on all the windows. The beauty part of this is the smart thermostat syncs up with the sun shades and can close and open them as needed. I think this will save us a ton of money in HVAC costs this coming summer.
