There was no waiting til morning so I had to call for an emergency HVAC service call.
I mean, I had never been exactly super consistent when it came calling the HVAC company for HVAC maintenance anyway. So what’s the big deal if I skip the heating maintenance this year? This is what really flawed logic looks like. And what’s worse, it worked. I fully talked myself into thinking that I could save myself a few bucks and not have the gas furnace serviced by an HVAC professional prior to the winter. I tried to remember exactly when the last time I had the gas furnace heating maintenance done. I couldn’t really remember for sure. And that should have been the first clue that I might need to call the HVAC company there and then. Of course, that’s not what I did. Really, it wasn’t even about the money as much as it was about me being lazy and feeling over confident. Either way, I made peace with the decision and cranked up the gas furnace when it started getting chilly in the fall. And just like I told myself, the gas furnace ran and ran well providing the heating we needed during the first part of winter. Yep, that gas furnace ran great until it didn’t. And of course, due to my hubris, the gas furnace broke down in the middle of a subfreezing night. There was no waiting til morning so I had to call for an emergency HVAC service call. Just getting the HVAC professional out in the middle of the night was so expensive. But what really hurt was finding out that the cause of the gas furnace problem was minor. And of course it would have been caught during normal heating maintenance.
