Hot Heat Abroad

I’ve found myself in many locations around the world where the climate is sub-tropical or, at the very least, much warmer than the climate that I am used to.

The air temperature is quite bearable, so long as there is a cool breeze blowing. The inside of buildings, however, are really quite warm. In some of the countries I have visited, the walls are much thicker than where I am from. This is good for the winter time, as heat is effectively trapped. However, during the summer, they can become quite warmer than I would care to experience. This became a small problem when I wanted to study indoors. For instance, my apartment did not have a very efficient air conditioning unit, and so I resorted to opening the window to cool my apartment. The cooling was not effective enough, however, and so it was difficult for me to focus on my computer work. In fact, we often times needed to use the air conditioner because the air pollution was too intense. If our air conditioner broke, I imagine that it could have taken several days for the HVAC technician to come and fix our unit. In which case, we would have had to either endure the poor air quality to receive natural cooling, or else suffer under the heat. Where I was located, I wonder if heater installation would ever be needed. It really was quite warm, and people tend to bundle up even when indoors, during the colder months. Moreover, in the high-rise building s are perhaps not conducive to having multiple furnaces, so HVAC technicians would have to install and repair countless individual units. That they would do so seems implausible.
