Cut the HVAC heating costs by catching the heat bandit

When a buddy of mine from college visited our place, he too noticed the draft in our house. Asking for a sweater was the tip off for me. So, I just brought this up to him as I wasn’t all that great with how to live in the northern winters. My buddy and I were both in college down south in all that air conditioning but he was actually from the north. And he still lived up here and just 3 hours away now. But for me, I was still quite new to the whole HVAC heating thing and not exactly loving it. I’d much rather still be at home with the heat pump that rarely even came on during the winter. Instead, my wife got promoted and here I am dealing with a winter that demands a gas furnace. This is our second winter in this house and as much as I tried, I just couldn’t locate that draft. So I asked my buddy what to do while he was visiting and he told me that he’d catch that heating bandit red handed the next day. That’s exactly what he did after a quick trip to the hardware store. He bought a instant read thermal gun. You can point it at any surface or even the ambient air and get an instant result. WE took that temperature gun and we started from the top of my house to the basement. And man, did we ever find and seal the heat bandits. But the main culprit was a window that wasn’t properly insulated when we had them replaced. So I let the contractor come out and deal with that.
