Coordinating HVAC contractor, plumber and electrician for new home build

When my husband and I bought a plot of land and decided to design a new home, we had no idea how much work and expense would be required. We assumed we’d hire a building contractor and he’d guide us through the process. There were endless decisions to make and we were extremely worried about making a mistake we’d regret for years ahead. We decided to hire specialists for each part of the project. We chose an experienced general contractor to handle the framing and overall construction. We then looked for a licensed plumber, electrician and HVAC contractor. While each of these professionals were proficient in their field, they didn’t work well together. The building project was constantly delayed while we waited on the electrician to show up or the plumber to finish the septic or the HVAC technician to complete the ductwork. When we hired the HVAC company, we didn’t realize that they would then deal with a subcontractor to fabricate the ductwork. This process took forever. Now that our house is finished and we’ve moved in, we’re very happy with everything. We know that everything is up to code and was installed properly. The house is wonderfully energy efficient and comfortable. We have every imaginable modern convenience. All of our essential systems and household appliances are brand new. Now, our goal is to keep everything working at peak capacity for as long as possible. We signed on for annual maintenance through the electrician, plumber and HVAC contractor. At least these professionals no longer need to coordinate with one another to complete their jobs.
