It was clever but I had no use for it or so I thought.
I’m just so impressed when I can find some sort of hidden value in something I thought contained none. Value is a big deal to me. I’ve never been one to spend money on stuff that I knew was simply going to break. Of course, everything breaks or eventually wears out. Even the HVAC equipment I invested in and consistently get HVAC maintenance done on will eventually wear out. But it’s the value that I get in those things which is the big thing for me. So when I find the hidden value in something that I thought was just worthless, I’m just elated. This is exactly what happened when it came to a gag Christmas gift the crew in the office gave me several years ago. I can be sort of the bad cop of the management team when it comes to accountability and following rules. I’m equally this way with the thermostat before we finally got a smart thermostat. So I got a instant read temperature gun as a funny gift. It was clever but I had no use for it or so I thought. This temp gun sat with my tools for a few years before I realized that it was the perfect tool for chasing down the sources of our drafty house! It so had value and it did the job I was hoping it would by leading me to the sources of where the HVAC heating was escaping to the outside. Once I sealed all that up, it was the warmest winter we’ve had since we lived here inside this home. And I saved a ton on HVAC heating costs as well.
