Some of my other friends don’t understand what I’m talking about when I refer to a heat pump or furnace problem. My parents are tired of hearing me talk about air conditioners, smart thermostats, and air filtration systems. It’s nice when my friends and I are together because we can talk about work and it doesn’t seem like it’s a big deal. My friends and I were hanging out last Saturday night. One of the guys was the on-call emergency HVAC technician at the shop. We were drinking beers, but he wasn’t. It’s a good thing that the guy wasn’t drinking because we actually got an emergency repair call that night. The phone never rings on the weekends, but on Saturday there was a call from a brand new customer that absolutely wanted that air conditioner fixed as soon as possible. The guy was willing to pay whatever the price was going to be. I decided to go with Jack to the repair call. I was curious about the customer and I wanted both of us to get back to the party as quickly as possible. The problem with the air conditioner turned out to be a simple and easy to fix problem with the thermostat. When the customer found the thermostat to be completely blank and off, he panicked and called the repair business. He should have simply taken out the 9-volt battery and replaced it with a new one. It would have saved him a $175 repair fee.
