I’m not sure if being an HVAC technician is right for me.

For years, I had been telling my Dad that I wanted to be an HVAC technician.

He heard me say it so often, that all I had to do was start the sentence and he could complete it.

He told me there was plenty of time to change my mind, but I didn’t think it was going to happen. I was halfway through my senior year, and had just signed up for their summer classes for HVAC technician school. I was listening to a lecture being given by a teacher who taught biology. He made biology sound like a wonderful thing, but I had already signed up to be an HVAC technician. I was still thinking about being a biologist when I started classes. After only four weeks of HVAC school, I told my dad I thought I had made a mistake. I wanted to be a biologist and maybe become an ecologist. I was concerned with the state of our ecology and I wanted to help keep it safe. Dad frowned and took a deep breath. This is exactly what he was afraid of. He told me to go ahead with my HVAC classes and I could then take courses in ecology. Maybe I could combine the two and figure out how to make the HVAC system more ecologically friendly. If I could create a cleaner heating system that didn’t depend on fossil fuel or electricity, I could be a millionaire. I just wanted to learn about ecology. He once again had me excited about HVAC and how to make it safer for the world.
