I have actually slept right through a firetruck siren directly outside of my window.

My job is very physically demanding. When I get home from work, get my shower and my stomach is full, it’s lights out before too very long. I’ve even begun to fall asleep in the chair like an old man lately. Hey, I’m not complaining. I’m very thankful that I am able to get that kind of rest and be ready to go the very next day. So, it was a real surprise we I was blasted out of bed in the middle of the night. There was a tremendous bang which rattled to entire house waking everyone. I was on my feet before I realized it. At first, I wasn’t sure what had happened. But then, I noticed that I could not hear the HVAC system running. It was really cold outside and there was no heat coming through the vents. When I got down stairs, I saw that the furnace was shut off. Something happened that forced it to shut down. I was mad because I realized right away that this was my fault. The HVAC maintenance was skipped this fall in an effort to save some money. Now, I was going to be facing a bill that would be many more times than what I would have spent just getting the maintenance done. My wife joined me downstairs. Her look said it all. There was nothing we could do but make that dreaded emergency call to the HVAC dealer.
