Overnight Heating and Air Conditioning worker’s story of a lizard rescue

Being on call for overnight shift for an Heating and Air Conditioning company has its ups and downs.

On the plus side, the two of us don’t get a lot of calls late at night and those calls the two of us do get spend our savings top dollar.

I also like laboring alone and not being bothered. On the down side, I do like our sleep, but last year I got an interesting call. Usually, when the two of us tell people how much an emergency, late-night visit will cost them, they opt to schedule something for normal corporation hours but not this man. She instantly said he didn’t care what it cost but that I must come out now. She then proceeded to tell me the problem. His son’s leopard gecko had escaped and was inside of the HVAC duct. His kid was autistic and this lizard meant the world to him and it easily must be extracted from the ducts now. I hopped in our truck and got his their home in under 20 minutes. I used a scope to thread through the HVAC duct and find the little leopard gecko. This took some time but thankfully the little fellow didn’t move far when I took apart the HVAC duct and got him out. The man was glad, the boy stopped crying and I was glad to help. I only charged them the correct hourly rate, not the emergency rate. Oh, and I put screens over all of the vents in the home too and I sold them at cost. Now the lizard can’t get into the HVAC duct again and I can go back home and snooze a little until the next call comes in.
