I’ve never been a big fan of celebrating the fact that I’m getting older.
I told my wife that I didn’t want anything for my birthday, because it was only a constant reminder that I was getting really old.
She just gave me a look and I shrugged. On the day of my birthday, my wife had a bunch of my friends come over and they said we were going on a fishing trip. They had a nice boat rented and everything. It was a mighty fancy boat too, it had an indoor area with climate control. I couldn’t believe how nice it happened to be. So we were out fishing for a majority of the day and we had drinks too. My buddies even celebrated with a little ice cream cake which was nice. When I got back home, there were family and friends who surprised me. I honestly didn’t expect it, everybody jumped out of nowhere! Even though I didn’t want to celebrate my birthday like that, I realized that it was really nice being there with family and friends. I also had such a nice time fishing with my closest buddies. I had to shake my head when I saw how many presents I had. It was kind of ridiculous but I just smiled and shook my head. Then my wife told me she got me the best present. She actually said it was already hooked up and I gave her a questioning look. Then she showed me what was on the wall. We used to have an old programmable thermostat, but there was now a new smart thermostat. It was really cool how the screen display was and it was easy to program. As a matter of fact the programming wasn’t necessary because you could switch it to learning mode to pick up on your preferred temperature control settings. It was a very thoughtful gift and I had a great time on my birthday.
