I was very shocked to find out that my kids had an unscheduled day off from school this past May! Of course I am used to this happening during the snowy season when the weather gets bad, but never in the beginning of the summer which is the end of the school year.
It turns out that because we were having a small heatwave and the school’s central heating and air conditioning system broke down, that they had no choice but to cancel school for the day.
The thing was, they could not get a certified heating and air conditioning specialist out that day before the kids got to school to repair a commercial heating and cooling system as large as the one the school has. The commercial heating and air conditioning system was the main problem here. If it had been a regular central heating and air conditioning system, then they would have been able to get it fixed that very same day and the kids would not have been out of school. But because they could not get a certified heating and air conditioning specialist out there the same day, this is what happened. I was glad they made that decision as I know many schools would have made the kids and teachers suffer in the heat without any air conditioning. However, I guess because it was so hot out, it would have been too much of a health and life risk to force anyone to have to go into that place with no cooling!
