Air conditioning is important in hotels

My husband and I went on our honeymoon last year in the Caribbean.

  • The climate is very hot and humid there even in the winter.

Most of our days were spent on the beach drinking frozen drinks at the pool. We didn’t spend much time in our hotel room, but it was important for us to feel comfortable in our room since we spent a lot of money on our trip. The first night the air conditioning was working just fine. There was an air conditioner unit near the window with an adjustable thermostat. We didn’t think too much about it until the next afternoon when we went up to the room to shower and get ready for dinner. It felt like the heat was turned on in the room and it was very uncomfortable! After messing with the thermostat a bit, my husband called the front desk and they told him a technician would be up soon to fix it. When the technician arrived, he explained that the type of air conditioner in our room was called a Packaged Terminal Air Conditioner which heats individual rooms so it is different from central air conditioning systems. He informed us that there was a leak in the air conditioner unit that he needed to fix for it to work properly and cool our hotel room effectively. The front desk concierge offered us a new room so we could get ready for our dinner and give the hotel HVAC technician space to work. We were relieved that the new room had a fully functional air conditioner unit. The front desk representative thanked us for being so patient and expressed that the air conditioning and heat normally doesn’t malfunction. We were just grateful to be on vacation!
