I have an admission to make.
- I am extremely avoidant and I know that it’s a problem.
I don’t think I ever realized before in my life how much I worked to stay away from things that made me uncomfortable. If a relationship gets difficult I stop speaking. If I get anxious about going to a certain place, I refuse to attend. If I realize that I absolutely cannot stand to live through another ice cold winter, I leave the area. This has been my plan for the next few years, anyways. I decided a while ago that I was tired of existing through a horrible midwest winter. The ice cold air temperatures, continual darkness, and abundant snow really were not suiting me anymore. I decided to move across the country and live in the warm and balmy South so I could stay away from a real winter season. Unfortunately, this also had the effect of distancing me from all of my friends and family. These days, I am considering moving back to the Midwest where I will have to suffer through uneven air temperatures and unpredictable climate changes. The only thing is, I still don’t think that I can stand the brutal winter season. I am so tired of worrying about forced air furnaces, space heaters, and extra fireplaces to stay warm. I’ve decided that I’m going to find temporary rentals for the winter so I can still evade the ice cold temperatures and HVAC reliance when the next bitterly cold season rolls around. Now, all I need to do is find a long-term rental that includes energy efficient heating.
