Spending my day off changing an air filter

I work extremely long hours and often put in seven days per week.

My job is demanding and stressful.

When I get a day off, I need to catch up on tasks around the house before I get to relax. I’m always in a rush to complete the grocery shopping, laundry, mopping, vacuuming and mowing the lawn. I write down a list of what needs to be done and hope it goes quickly. This past Saturday was the first free day I’d had in three weeks. My to-do list was super long. I decided that I needed to get up extra early and be especially organized and efficient. Unfortunately, I hit the snooze button so many times that I ended up getting out of bed way later than I’d planned. Because I overslept and failed to let the dog out at his usual time, he peed on my carpet. I started my day by cleaning that mess up. This put me even further behind schedule. My first actual task was to change the filter in the air conditioner. I figured this would take me less than five minutes. I then discovered that I didn’t have a replacement filter on hand. I attempted to wash a disposable filter, and this didn’t go well. The fitler dissolved into nothing. I then drove to a home improvement store to buy a new one. As I stood in the aisle, looking at the hundreds of options, I realized that I had no clue of the right size. Googling the information took some time and revealed that the store didn’t have the proper filter available. I then drove twenty minutes to a different store and managed to buy what I needed. By the time I installed the new filter, I’d sacrificed half of my day to that single task.
