Need to update furnace

The new furnace costs a lot less to operate

When my husband and I purchased our first home, the heater was already outdated and in terrible condition. Unfortunately, we didn’t have any room in the budget for a new furnace. We had a long list of repairs that needed to take precedence. There were quite a few windows that needed to be replaced and the roof leaked. We had to buy a new washer, drivery, oven and refrigerator. My husband and I wrote out a schedule for making home improvements and hoped to replace the furnace within six years. However, as time went by, other things kept impacting our budget. There were so many problems with my car, that we needed to buy a new one. The water heater ruptured, the one sink drain leaked and caused extensive water damage and the foundation under the porch rotted. We stayed with that same old furnace for ten more years. Every winter, we expected it to fail. We were very unhappy with the cost of our monthly energy bills and level of comfort. The furnace simply couldn’t handle the severe weather in our local area and the house often felt chilly. There was quite a bit of dust blowing from the vents and the air smelled dusty. We set the thermostat as low as possible to save money and wrapped in blankets. I was conscientious about filter replacement and year professional upkeep. Each time the technician came to the house to service the furnace, he’d warn me that the equipment needed to be updated. We felt that getting by with that ancient furnace was saving us money. Eventually, the heater failed right at Christmas time. The outside temperature was well below freezing, and we were forced to take out a home improvement loan to cover the expense of a new furnace. As soon as the new heater was operational, we realized that we should have made the investment years before. The new furnace costs a lot less to operate. It’s way more environmentally friendly, cleaner and provides superior comfort.
