The furnace types and their cons and pros

What kind of furnace do you want? You can get a gas, electric or oil based furnace for around the same price. Typically these heating systems last around 10-15 years with proper heating service and repairs. They obviously power differently due to their fuel types. There are pros and cons to each. The question is, what cons are you okay with? A gas furnace is a complicated installation process due to a flue network and gas hook ups being installed. Additionally, you want to be on it with gas furnace service. It is really easy for this system to get dust inside of it. If the furnace gets too dusty, it can quickly overheat and either release carbon monoxide or catch on fire. Talk about scary! An electric furnace is just really expensive. The actual system isn’t cheap and using electricity is so much more than gas or oil. Smaller homes or ones in moderate weather typically use an electric heater since it hardly gets turned on. An oil furnace requires you to have an on site oil tank which is large and ugly. Additionally you are on the hook for oil deliveries. A snowy day stopping a delivery could really mean you don’t have heating for the day. It is also more expensive to heat with oil than gas. There are benefits to each system though. A gas furnace is the easiest to maintain. An electric heater is the most efficient option. An oil furnace actually provides more heating since it burns a hotter flame than the others.
