I was looking for a way to make my mother more comfortable. She had been having a lot of health issues that left her with some mobility issues. I wanted her to be safe, but I also wanted her to be able to have her own space. She had already been talking about giving up her home and moving into a convalescent home. I wanted to do one better. I called the contractor and asked about having a small apartment built in my attached garage. There would be a private door to her home, that would also be two steps away from my house. I had to have some kind of HVAC system in the garage. The garage was attached to the house, so it had heating and air conditioning, but it wasn’t good enough. My husband suggested we just build a new apartment onto the house, so we could keep the garage. We were now getting ready to build a four room attachment onto the back of the house, and add a bedroom and bathroom for our oldest daughter. I was concerned about the HVAC system and whether it was big enough to handle all this extra space. My husband called the HVAC company and asked them to look at the house, and give a professional opinion. After all their measuring and checking out the nearly completed rooms, the HVAC professional told us that we were going to need either another HVAC system, or an upgraded furnace and air conditioning unit. We opted for a ductless HVAC system for the addition.
