Last year our utility bill was the lowest it has been in six entire years. I am not joking, it has been that long since I paid so little for our electricity & water utilities. This happened not because the rates were lowered (haha, like the fat cats would ever lower the price of utilities) however because I moved into a nicer dwelling. To me it seemed entirely counterintuitive, that a larger dwelling with more rooms, & twice as many doors & windows, would have not just lower energy bills, however largely lower bills. It’s not as if I haven’t been running the A/C appliance every single day since I moved in, either. I keep our temperature control set at 74 degrees, just like I constantly do. The difference is I now have a superior, more efficient HVAC than before. I also recently learned something that kind of blew my mind. Because my husband informed me that both of us had another air conditioner appliance in the crawlspace over our family room. In this dwelling they converted a car garage into a master family room & bath, & they had also installed its own dedicated a/c appliance. The realtor had never talked about there being multiple Heating, Ventilation & A/C appliances during the entire buying process. This is insane to me, because how can a power bill be so rock-bottom low with numerous different a/c appliances regularly working? This goes to show you how efficient current Heating, Ventilation & A/C tech is becoming, because this dwelling is consistently perfectly cool, even though the a/c appliances don’t run for especially long. It could be just relaxing insulation, however it sure saves a sizable amount of money.
