He didn’t do it how I would.

Five years ago, I owned an HVAC company.

  • Because of some health issues, I could not continue working.

I sold my HVAC company to my top technician, and never looked back. I still yearned for those days when I could hop into a service van and go on HVAC service calls. I didn’t think that would ever go away, but I didn’t miss running the HVAC company. It wasn’t until recently, when we had a new furnace installed in our house, that I wondered if I could and should go back to work. A young HVAC technician was at the house, helping to do the installation of the furnace. I watched what the two men were doing and wondered if they realized they were doing it in the wrong order. I could have been wrong since I hadn’t worked for quite some time, but I really wanted to say something. I asked the young men where they trained and who their boss was. I tried to tell them they were using the wrong steps in the installation, but they didn’t listen to me. When I said I had once owned an HVAC company and told them who bought it, they both smiled. My successor was the person who had been their instructor in the HVAC classes. They said that if I wasn’t doing things in the right order, he should contact him. I guess it wouldn’t do any good to call the HVAC instructor‌, all because the young men didn’t do things the way I would do it. I thanked them for the information and headed back upstairs.
