I spent quite some time during my childhood growing up in the bitter cold American northwest. One of my earliest memories happens to be climbing through a snowbank tunnel that my older siblings had dug out off to the side of our driveway. All of us paid to have someone plow the driveway numerous times per week, leaving these very large snow banks in our front yard for us to play in. Even our golden retriever Buskers would join us for a bunch of fun out in the bitter frigid each morning, even if it fell below zero. For the longest time, the lot of us got by on simply using the old fireplace built into the old farm home the lot of us lived in. But, these old fireplaces can often be severely inefficient at keeping heat from simply escaping up the chimney, instead of getting distributed throughout the residence, such as a fan forced gas furnace would. Eventually, the lot of us settled for a wood stove that was just a slight bit less inefficient. Simply because the concentration of heat remained in the residence this time, with a fraction of it escaping up the chimney compared to the old fireplace. Years later, my partner as well as I decided to purchase radiant heated flooring instead. Although the initial costs were rather high, the lot of us have yet to find a more efficient way to keep our residence sizzling while in our frigid Winters here. All of the heat rises up from the floor as well as has to filter through the air in the residence before it has a chance to escape through the ceiling or windows. Plus, the lot of us can set it to keep all of the rooms at completely different temperature settings if the we want to do that, which comes in handy at night when the lot of us only want to spend cash keeping our residence entirely warm, instead of warming the entire residence. It’s a serious challenge to beat the efficiency as well as effectiveness of radiant heated floors.
