How hot is too hot?

I know that being comfortably warm is all a part of a person’s own personal preference.

Every once in a while, I will go into a home and wonder just when we truly need to ask just how hot is too hot.

I know that if it is too hot, it can be dangerous for some people. You are always hearing about the need for the elderly to have fans, if they don’t have air conditioning in the summer season. When heat waves hit our area, we are always being told to check on the elderly. Help the elderly find a safe locale where there is air conditioner or fans. Being a heating and A/C professional, I was in and out of homes where the elderly lived. Some of them want their temperature controls set at eighty instead of seventy. We are in the deep south, and people are shocked to hear that there are still several people who don’t have air conditioning. When you are born and raised without air conditioning, it bothers you more when we have the cooler weather than when we have the warmer weather. They have learned to adapt by having heavy drapes over the windows to keep out the sun. They have slow-moving fans that keep the air cooler and not just circulate the heat. I get air conditioning service calls from the younger people more than from the elderly. I’m not saying that the heat can’t be dangerous for older people, but I get mostly calls for repairs to their furnaces. One guy told me that he would much rather be too hot than not hot enough.
