I turned on the news yesterday afternoon and l learned that a local family had experienced a fire and had lost everything.

Thankfully their family members and pets had escaped the horrific fire but their house and stuff were a total loss! With it only being five days before Christmas, I can’t imagine how the family must have felt to see their beloved home destroyed.

Of course, their mean source of happiness was the fact that they were all alive and safe, but I wanted to do anything I could to help. The news reported that the fire had started in the basement of the condo & I assumed that it had something to do with the Heating & Air Conditioning system. Here in our area, several of the homes are older and have basements that have these big units and if they are not working properly they can actually begin a fire. The other issue, in several cases is the fact that people stack boxes and papers too close to the unit and these combustible items can actually catch fire. I’m not sure if that has the exact cause but in any case I try to tell people of these dangers whenever I visit their homes to do a tune-up on their systems. The news program went on to tell us how to help this family in this desperate time and one of the ways that they suggested was a GoFundMe account that was set up to raise donations for their home. I talked to my employer when I got to work that day and he offered to give the family a gift certificate towards the purchase of a new heating and air conditioning system when they got to the point of rebuilding. I guess that might seem like a small thing but it is a single of the greatest expenses when it comes to replacing appliances and I was glad that he was willing to help..
