Waiting at the doctor’s office

There are many times when I don’t understand the point of making appointments.

As far as I’m concerned, when you set a time to meet with somebody both people are agreeing to show up. However, it seems like most professional services take their appointment times as a joke. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve waited for a car repair or a central heating and cooling technician to arrive at my home, only to sit around for 8 hours before I receive the help that I needed. Similarly, every time I go to the doctor’s office I wind up waiting for at least an hour. They don’t even try to make the wait comfortable. Every waiting room I’ve ever been in has felt stagnant and humid. It’s like they don’t want to spend any money on the central heating and cooling for their impatient clients. Unfortunately, once they bring you out of the waiting room and into the office the air temperature gets even worse. At that point, it feels like there’s air conditioning blasting in from every corner of the room. They have you sit on a cold metal table and wait for the doctor while overabundant AC streams down from the ceiling. There’s no way to escape from the ice cold indoor air when you’re sitting in the office wearing a paper gown. I wind up shivering and rubbing my arms while the commercial AC blasts me with arctic air. By the time the doctor gets in for the actual appointment, I’m definitely about to lose my cool.
