Safety is important on the worksite

My very first day on the job, and I mean my very first day at ANY job, I saw someone get hurt. My dad got me a part time summer job with his friend who was a general contractor. I was basically there as an errand boy and to pick up garbage, real lightweight stuff because I was only 15 and not on the books officially. Anyway, after two hours of working I saw a guy take a tumble off a roof and break his neck. It has been 15 years, but I think about the guy every day. It helps me keep my HVAC work crew tight, and ensures I follow every safety protocol, to keep everyone safe. Me and my crew work on industrial HVAC systems and air delivery systems for massive apartment buildings and office buildings. Your regular, friendly neighborhood HVAC man doesn’t have to worry about a lot of the on-the-job stress we face daily. Installing ductwork isn’t hard, but installing it inside an old air shaft with an 80 foot drop under you is another matter entirely. This is actually why I am running the crew, because I am not certified as an HVAC tech. I run a full squad of certified HVAC techs, but I am the foreman, the watchman, the safety enforcer who makes sure everyone comes home at night. It was my record for safety, and reputation for delivering quality HVAC work that never cuts any corners, that landed me this job to begin with, and I won’t compromise my integrity now!
