Furnace blowing chilly air

When the chilly weather finally arrives, and you have to turn on your oil furnace for the first time after many weeks of not using it, the last thing you want to find is that it’s not working or is blowing chilly air, but, there is no reason to panic, because the solution may be an easy fix.

If there is a constant flow of cool air coming from your oil furnace, check your temperature control to see if the units fan is set to “on” or “auto.” Chances are, your temperature control’s fan setting is set to “on”, in which case your oil furnace blower will always run even when your oil furnace is not heating the air. By switching the temperature control to “auto”, the fan will only blow when the oil furnace is heating the air, pilotless ignition furnaces use a flame sensor to keep the oil furnace burning once it starts. If the flame sensor is dirty, your oil furnace will turn on and begin heating but then turn chilly hastily! You can wash the flame sensor yourself if you choose, and it will restore the heating function. If your gas oil furnace is older and it’s blowing chilly air, possibilities are its pilot light has gone out. You can call an HVAC corporation to make sure it is lit safety, however dirty air filters are a problem also because they limit airflow into your oil furnace, then restricted airflow can cause your oil furnace to run longer to heat your beach house until it overheats… When it overheats, you will only get chilly air. Replace your filter with a modern and wash 1 in this case. If you still can’t figure out why your oil furnace is blowing chilly air, contact an HVAC professional to run some tests and inspect your oil furnace and figure out the cause of the problem.
