Can’t believe my husband wasted his money

I nearly jumped out of my skin when my husband unexpectedly swung open the front door.

The front door clashed into the wall and made a loud bang noise, almost enough to put a hole in the wall. I spun around to face my husband, and he was grinning ear to ear. I asked him why he was grinning like that, and he told me he picked up the coolest thing at a nearby HVAC store. I couldn’t help but to scratch my head, what could be so interesting at a heating and cooling store? He went back out to the van and started lugging on in a machine, a portable A/C to be specific. He set it down and then looked at me. “It’s an air conditioning unit!” He told me cheerily. I could obviously tell what it was, but that didn’t answer my question as to why he bought it. We have a perfectly functioning central HVAC device, why would we need a portable HVAC? When I asked him this, he told me he wanted to buy it because it looked cool, and we never knew when we might need it. I didn’t really care that much, until he told me he spent his promotion money on it. I stared at him shocked, we had already discussed ahead of time that that money was supposed to go towards a house, instead of living in this cramped 1 bedroom apartment. He could obviously sense my disapproval, but he told me he just wanted to buy something for himself, instead of constantly stashing away to save. I still didn’t see much use for it, and I’m sure the thing is going to need HVAC maintenance. All in all, I just think getting it was a bad idea.
