Happy to be in heat pump kingdom

I left heat pump kingdom for a short while.

  • It did not go well.

But I had never lived outside of the south and all the air conditioning we need down here. I figured that a cold Winter might offer me a new perspective on life. So I took a job up north right out of college. I definitely got some perspective like I thought I would when I moved up north. It just wasn’t the perspective I was expecting. But suddenly, living in the south sure made a heck of a lot more sense than it ever did. I don’t think I could ever live in a region where I needed a gas furnace to stay warm during the Winter. Shoot, I barely need a heat pump to stay warm where I live these days. For sure, there aren’t any gas furnaces down here. This is for sure the land of the heat pump and the heat pump is king. It only makes sense that the heat pump would be the go to residential HVAC. For that matter, most commercial HVAC is a heat pump in this region. A heat pump actually moves heat energy from one place to another. This was the groundbreaking HVAC technology that made residential HVAC even possible. Heat pumps are able to actually move heat energy out of the house to make room for cooling air. At the same time, the process of moving heat energy works if you need heating as well. Then, the process is simply reversed and the heat pump brings heat energy from the ambient air outside into the house. It’s really quite a remarkable process and one that I don’t fully understand. But all I know is I’m never leaving the land of the heat pump again.
