I’ll never forget when my uncle took my sister and I skiing one Christmas break.
We went up and up, driving into a mountain town that was over 12,000 ft above sea level.
My sister and I had never been skiing before, but we were very keen on learning and we really enjoyed the whole experience. Besides the beautiful scenery and the lavish hotel accommodations, the one thing that sticks in my mind the most is how amazing the hotel’s heating system felt. I did not know at the time, but the type of heating system that was in the hotel rooms is called radiant heated flooring and walls. Comforting warmth emanated from both the floor and the walls keeping us nice and toasty. The warmth of the room bore such a stark contrast to the howling wind and whipping snow outside that it just gave us the most amazing cozy feeling. We had a beautiful view from the hotel room window of the ski town sitting on the opposite hillside, lights beginning to turn on and twinkle in the purple and pink dusk after a long day of skiing. One evening, it was expected that the temperature would dip down to -2 F, But that scarcely concerned us once we were inside the inviting warmth of our radiant heated hotel room! I guess it’s the little things that you remember in life, and if I ever move to a cold mountain town I would spend an arm and a leg to have a radiant heated system that would mimic the one that I experienced in that hotel!
