Going back to the office to work in the A/C

My job has been offering work from home opportunities ever since COVID.

Like many businesses, they realized that employees like me could fulfill our duties just as effectively if not more without actually having to come to a physical office location.

For the longest time, I was content to work from home. Oh sure, I clocked in on time everyday, but it was really just a gesture. I would usually spend about 6 hours doing whatever I felt like and then cram my work into the last two hours of my shift. It wasn’t all that difficult to do, mind you! Then a major heat wave hit and my air conditioner gave out on me. I didn’t have money to fix it for a couple weeks, so I decided I was going to be commuting to my office for the next couple weeks to take advantage of the building’s air conditioning system. Sure, the drive is about 35 minutes in crazy rush hour traffic, but I would be driving to a very comfortable air conditioned building. I generally try to stay out of my house until the evening when it’s time to sleep. That’s when it’s a little cooler anyway and I can crack the windows and run fans to try and beat the heat. Never thought I’d be able to justify going back to a physical office location, but I got to tell you that that air conditioning system really is something. You never really appreciate something until you lose it, and air conditioning is definitely one of those things!
