How we spend the holidays

I turned on the news yesterday and learned that a local family had experienced a home fire and lost everything.

Thankfully, their family members as well as pets had escaped the horrific fire however their home as well as belongings were a total loss.

With it only being 4 days before Christmas, I cannot imagine how the family must have felt to see their home destroyed; Of course, their mean source of happiness was the fact that they were all alive and well, but I wanted to do anything I could to help. The news reported that the fire had started in the basement of the old home and I assumed that it had something to do with the heating and air conditioning system, because, in our area, many of the homes are older and have big untits in the basements and if they are not operating properly, they can absolutely start a fire. The other issue, in many cases is the fact that people stacked boxes too close to the component and these combustible items can catch fire. I am not sure if that was the exact cause, however, in any case, I try to tell people of these dangers whenever I visit their homes to do a tune-up on their systems. The news program went on to tell us how we could help this family in this desperate time, like their GoFundMe account that was set up to raise money for their home. I talked to my boss when I got to work that day as well and she offered to provide the family a gift certificate towards the purchase of a current heating and air conditioning punit when they got to the point of rebuilding. I feel that might seem like a small thing however it is one of the biggest expenses when it comes to replacing appliances and I was glad that she was willing to offer.
